“The root of what makes }exghts great is the team behind it” – We said it and we mean it! Here at }exghts we pride ourselves on our people and on the possibilities that each of them have to grow and develop themselves. Although we share common goals and knowledge, every one of us is unique and has different needs. That is why we believe in investing in each member in a customized manner. It all sounds dreamy, but actions speak louder than words, so let us prove ourselves.
Marian Filipovici is our talented software developer and one of our very first members. He already lived the }exghts experience, by attending a Microsoft Bootcamp, an international event in Amsterdam, where he learned a lot about artificial intelligence. Moreover, he got a taste of the Amsterdam life, culture and fun!
Here is Marian’s story about his first unique experience at exghts:
Trip to Amsterdam
At the beginning of February 2019, I was in Amsterdam for three days at a Microsoft Bootcamp with the theme: “AI – Apps and Agents”. It was a work trip where I both learned lots of cool stuff and had some fun afterwards.
How it all started
I was enjoying a beer when I received a link from Armand to a Microsoft conference with the message “wanna go there?” to which I replied, “this looks so cool, of course I would want to go”. He bought the event ticket, flights, hotel and the next week I was already in Amsterdam.
The event took place in a conference room inside the Ajax Amsterdam Stadium:
In the first day I was introduced to the Microsoft Cognitive Services (Image recognition, classification, language recognition, Azure Search) and the LUIS (Language Understanding) service.
The presentations were short and clear, and I mostly worked on the labs with the help of the guys from Microsoft who were eager to help. This gave me an idea about how these services work and how they can be used.
At the end of the day we had a small networking party in the VIP lounge. I met some interesting guys from different countries, some with more experience using these services. The most valuable thing I got from them was learning how the services are used in real projects, what challenges they have and how they fix problems.
The next 2 days were focused more on LUIS and building intelligent chat bots. We built a bot capable of understanding basic user intents that was able to use Azure Search on an existing database and look for images on Bing.
After the bootcamp sessions ended I had some free time to have fun. This time I decided to explore more the cultural part of the city.
So, the first cool thing I did was going to a symphonic concert: Holland Baroque + DorotheeMields + Marco Ambrosini. It was in my opinion some Lord of the Rings meets Viking meets Scottish music that I enjoyed so much.
I also visited some museums like Madame Tussauds.
And the Van Gogh Museum (spoiler alert, he loved taking selfies)
The trip was a perfect balance of learning and having fun. I acquired so much knowledge about the Azure capabilities regarding AI, I met some interesting people that shared their experience with me and after the bootcamp sessions I took advantage of every free second to explore this beautiful city. I hope I can do this again soon!
In the }exghts journey, this is the first adventure of many. Keep close and discover more about us, our culture and lifestyle, and the growth of each of us. Who knows, maybe soon enough you will be sharing your own experience as part of }exghts!
